Elementary School in New York City

imageIn continuing my commitment to the project, I visited one of the elementary schools in New York City that participates in Juilliard’s educational outreach programs. There, I conducted and indigenous African instrument workshop in one of the school’s music classes. We demonstrated and discussed the purpose, origins and history of the following instruments: Namunjoloba (small signal drum), Endingidi (tube fiddle), Akogo (thumb piano), Ensasi (shakers), and Nyatiti (traditional guitar).

The video that I made at Makerere University, which has and intensive demonstration of other African instruments and performance ensembles, was also presented during this session.
